Statement on Conclusion of Fifth U.S. – Central America Public Private Banking Dialogue

The fifth U.S.- Central America Public Private Banking Dialogue was held on December 13, 2019 in Panama, City, Panama. The annual U.S. – Central America dialogue enables policymakers, bank supervisors, financial intelligence units, and private sector representatives to directly engage on strengthening the anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) frameworks in each country, as well as trends in correspondent banking and illicit finance.
This dialogue included presentations from both the private and public sectors on the improved supervision of money services businesses, digital payments, the new international standards for virtual assets and virtual assets service providers, and human trafficking. Panama’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Superintendency of Banks of Panama, and the United States Department of the Treasury co-chaired the meeting.
