Event(s): Protesters and police are clashing in downtown Panama City. Riot police are dispersing tear gas. U.S. Embassy personnel living in affected areas have been advised to remain indoors at this time due to the unpredictable movements of the protestors and to avoid the downtown area if possible.
While most demonstrations are non-violent, the Panamanian National Police have used tear gas and/or riot control munitions in response to demonstrations, particularly when roadways are blocked, or aggression is used against the police.
